Maubeuge houses at its heart a jewel of Art Deco.
Built in 1624, the chapel of the Jesuit college is a building whose architecture announces the beginnings of thebaroque art.
Desecrated during the French Revolution and renamed “ Sthrau room », it will be: stable then ballroom or recreation room.
In 1914, while it housed a museum, a library and a music room, it was largely destroyed by German bombings.
In 1925, the architect Henri Lafitte takes on the challenge of rebuilding and enhancing the building, of which only the walls remain.
2 years later, the public discovered with wonder a traditional village hall Art Déco, organized on two levels, a music room and under a sumptuous glass roof upstairs, a ballroom.
Dormant since 1998, always reinventing itself, the “Belle” reopened its doors at the end of 2018.
On the ground floor, discover the micro follies and upstairs the Muse exhibition at the Grand Palais de Paris. Each year, a program is offered as part of the Art Déco Spring.
The room is open Tuesday to Sunday from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m.
