Parking: courtyard of the abbey in Maroilles
(D/A) Leave the abbey courtyard and join the Grande Rue. Turn right, pass the church.
(1) At the fork, take Rue des Jews on the left. Go straight.
(2) Leave the return road on the left and go straight on until the exit passage from the village of Maroilles.
(3) Turn left on the D32A and pass Pont des Parts
(4) Arriving at the D32 (route de Maroilles), turn left and cross the bridge over the Sambre. Then cross the railway line and continue straight ahead. You are in the Mormal forest.
(5) At the Carrefour de l'Ermitage, turn left onto the road to Landrecies and continue straight ahead.
(6) At the Carrefour du Pont Routier, turn left onto the Route du Pont Routier which is a section of the Van Gogh route. Go straight ahead until you reach the railway tracks.
(7) Cross the railway line then take the path on the right which runs alongside it. Go straight.
(8) When you see houses, you arrive at Etoquies, part of the town of Landrecies.
Continue straight ahead, cross the railway line then turn left, remaining on the long Chemin des Étoquies. On each side, you have beautiful homes.
(9) Pass under the road bridge, go straight on Rue du Syndicat which turns right and joins Rue d'Happegarbes. Turn right.
Warning - be careful, you are arriving on a busy road.
At the roundabout, turn right onto Avenue de la Marne, cross the bridge over the railway tracks and continue straight on onto Avenue de la Légion d'Honneur. Observe on your left the old Clarke de Landrecies barracks.
(10) Just before the Sambre canal bridge, take the towpath on the left then continue right along the canal. On your left, you will see the Etoquies marsh. You can observe moorhens, ducks and the typical flora of the banks.
(11) The only difficulty of the route: the passage of bicycles at the Écluse des Étoquies using the footbridge to cross to the other side of the canal. Then follow the latter on the other bank. At the end, turn right onto the Route de Maroilles.
(4) Immediately take the first path on the right (D1a) that you took on the way out.
(3) Arriving at the D32, turn right
(2) Then take Chemin Dame Marguerite on the right and go to the end. You will then see the Moulin des Prés on the right (you have to approach to see the valves).
(12) Turn left into Rue du Lieutenant, continue straight on this long street to the center of the village of Maroilles. Arriving at the Grande Rue, turn right and then left to find the abbey courtyard (D/A).
