Théâtre Jean Ferrat

With its imposing dimensions and architectural style, the Théâtre de Fourmies recalls the town's glorious industrial past.

It is doubly inscribed in the collective unconscious of the population, as an institution, but also as a building. With a capacity of 450 seats, the room is fully equipped with high-performance equipment in terms of sound and light diffusion and has recently been equipped with a complete digital capture system allowing it total autonomy in the field of filming and video broadcasting.
Many artistic teams meet there during rehearsals and residencies, but its main activity remains the distribution and production of multidisciplinary live shows with an ambitious program.

Mediation work accompanies spectators throughout the season with the organization of workshops, conferences, exhibitions, and meetings by the various stakeholders in the area.
At the beginning of 2010, a major renovation project began in order to meet the new safety and accessibility standards essential for the organization of cultural events.

In February 2012, the transformed Theatre reopened its doors and became the city’s essential cultural hub.
Around thirty shows are held there each season, as well as residencies on projects currently being completed. The hall also hosts shows by associations from Fourmies and private events.

The Theatre therefore stands out as an essential place for meetings and exchanges for the inhabitants of the area, a true beating heart of the "cultural city centre", fully assuming its role as a tool for the democratisation of Culture.
