When we think of Maroilles, we think of cheese and that incredible scene from “Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis”. The famous cow's milk cheese, soft and orange in color, which makes the nostrils sparkle.
This smell is beautiful and truly from our region, from this charming village of Maroilles !
Its appearance dates back to the 9th century, in parallel with the creation of the abbey. The monks transformed milk into cheese. They jealously preserved this privilege until the 11th century then, the price of success, manufacturing spread to neighboring villages and a little later to Thiérache. The maroilles is worth its weight in gold, before the French Revolution, it is essentially a farm production that the peasants use as payment for the tithe, a tax levied by the Clergy.
Nowadays, it is found and consumed everywhere in France. The best way to discover it is to go to the farms that produce it, and that's good, with us you can visit them! They wear the only AOC cheese from the Hauts-de-France region!

If you have seen Dany Boon's film, the morning tasting scene in the café has undoubtedly left an impression on you... Its powerful taste, knocking out Kad Merad. It is also eaten in flamiche, a delicious tart baked with yeast dough where the maroilles softens to leave an explosion of sweetness and happiness in the mouth.
