The Avesnois by Bike

1200 km of interconnected loops, 60 km of cycle routes, mountain bike circuits, hundreds of route possibilities, what do you think?

Whether you are a beginner, a family with young children, Sunday morning cyclists with “racing bikes” or even fans of muddy paths on a mountain bike, there is something for everyone.

You will appreciate the safety of our cycle routes, that of the Sambre and Abnormal, on the towpath, along the canal, from Jeumont to Landrecies.

Even more, the Avesnois Greenway, an old railway line between Ferrière-la-Grande and Glageon which, for 33 km, is entirely tarmac. This is a section of the Scandibérique (national cycle route) which is also a portion of theEuroVelo 3 (EV3) connecting Trondheim in Norway to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

Avesnois Node Points Network MapReed Hilde Lenaerts

In the summer of 2022, the Cycling Points-Nodes Network was installed by the Department of the North. Avesnois is the first region in France to implement this system!

What is the Points-Noeuds Network?

This is a “daisy” marking of country roads.

At every intersection, directional markers show you the node where you are and the direction to the following numbered intersections. You can follow your route or modify it at any time according to your desires, this network is made up of sections from 1 to 5 km long.

What if you went abroad?

With the RPN, you have the possibility to cross the border and visit Belgium! In Wallonia, this same system is also present, it bears the name “ RAVeL"

Where to find the map?

A multitude of circuits that adapt to your needs and desires is the promise of the Points-Noeuds Network. So don't wait any longer, come and try it!

To prepare for your outings, go to the Avesnois Tourist Offices to obtain the network card (on sale for €8).

Home Bike®

In order to facilitate your stay, tourist providers are certified Accueil Vélo ®.

It is a brand that guarantees quality services to cyclists along the routes.

It is the guarantee for the cyclist that the establishment:

– Is located less than 5 km from a bike route

– Has equipment suitable for cyclists: secure bike shelter, repair kit

– Offers you a warm welcome (practical information, advice, itineraries, weather, etc.)

One last piece of advice before getting on your bike, prepare your calves, because in Avesnois, it's climbing. We are far from the image of the flat country…
