2000 years of history(s)

Julius Caesar was the first to name in his Gallic War the Nervian people, whom he fought in 57 BC. But it was his heir Octavian, who became Emperor Augustus, who organized the Gallic provinces, notably with the creation of Belgian Gaul. The city of Bagacum Nerviorum was founded ex nihilo at the very end of the Ier s. av. BC to become the capital of the Nerviens, at the crossroads of seven Roman roads, one of which is remembered under the name of Chaussée Brunehaut. Very quickly, the new town became an essential strategic and commercial crossroads in the north of Gaul.
